Yujun Chen, senior ECE major, has been awarded a 2018 James S. Waters Creativity Award, which is given to an engineering undergraduate for unusual creativity in independent work. She was nominated for her work in Research in Algorithms and Architectures for Wireless Communications Systems and Image Processing. She will receive her award at the annual Rice Engineering Alumni/School of Engineering picnic.
James S. Waters received a bachelor of science degree in Electrical Engineering from the Rice Institute in 1917. He joined the faculty and stayed with Rice for most of the rest of his life. He served in the Air Corps from 1942 to 1946. He retired in 1964 and passed away the same year. He was on the Rice campus for 50 years, serving as the department chair for Electrical Engineering for 30 of those years. The award named in his honor was created in 1968.
